Spanish Cup expel Real Madrid for fielding ineligible player

Denis Cheryshev of Real Madrid shoots past Cristian Marquez of Cadiz to score his team's opening goal during the Copa del Rey Round of 32 First Leg match between Cadiz and Real Madrid at Ramon de Carranza stadium on December 2, 2015 in Cadiz, Spain.

Real Madrid have been expelled from the Copa del Rey for fielding an ineligible player against Cadiz on Wednesday, December 2. Russian winger Denis Cheryshev scored the first goal for Real, as the team beat the third-tier side 3-1 in the first leg of their last-32 tie. But Cheryshev should have been serving a ban which was imposed while he was on loan at Villarreal. Real say Cheryshev and the club were not told before the game and would take "the appropriate action" to ensure a favourable outcome. Real have won the competition 19 times.
