Red Bull drop driver Lawson after two races

Red Bull is set to drop its driver, Liam Lawson, after just two races in a ruthless move from team principal Christian Horner, following a meeting in Dubai earlier this week.

The BBC reported that the New Zealand racer will be swapped out for Japanese driver Yuki Tsunoda and return to Red Bull's second tier team, Racing Bulls, from the next race in Japan.

The decision was confirmed by the F1 team who said that the move was "purely a sporting decision", in a statement.

Lawson qualified in 18th position in the opening race of the season in Australia before crashing out of the race. In China he qualified last in the sprint and grand prix and finished the two races 14th and 12th.

When the question was put to Tsunoda, in China, whether he would accept the promotion to Red Bull, he said "yes".
