Mathias Vacek takes Expo 2020 Dubai stage in debut pro win

The 19-year-old Czech rider took the stage after breaking away from the peloton in a pack of six riders and proving fastest in the final sprint.

Frenchman Paul Lapeira and Dmitriy Strakhov from Russia secured second and third places in the stage, respectively.

The riders were flagged off at the starting line by Reem Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation and Managing Director, Expo 2020 Dubai; Ahmed Al Khatib, Chief Development and Delivery Officer, Expo 2020 Dubai, Aref Hamad Al Awani, the General Secretary of Abu Dhabi Sports Council, and Saeed Mohammed Hareb, General Secretary of Dubai Sports Council.

Leaving Expo, they travelled through Dubai Investments Park, Jumeirah Golf Estates, Sports City, Arabian Ranches, Global Village and Dubai Silicon Oasis, Mirdif, Festival City, Ras Al Khor, Meydan, Dubai Design District and the Burj Khalifa.

Doing a U-turn at Trade Center roundabout they travelled from Sheikh Zayed Road  down Jumeirah Beach Road now and on to Palm Jumeirah across to Dubai Marina and Discovery Gardens before returning to Expo.

Tomorrow's final stage will run from Al Ain to Jebel Hafeet over 148 km.
