'Friends' to leave Netflix for new HBO Max streaming site

It's official: American sitcom 'Friends' is moving from Netflix to WarnerMedia's upcoming streaming service by 2020.

The new platform, called HBO Max, outbid Netflix and paid $85 million per year for five years ($425 million total) to land exclusive streaming rights for Friends.

The service is set to launch in spring 2020 and will debut with 10,000 hours of premium content.

WarnerMedia is yet to announce pricing for the service, which will compete with Netflix, Hulu, and Disney Plus, among others.
