Sharjah has announced a 50 per cent discount on fines related to the non-renewal of business licences.

The penalties will be slashed if business owners rectify their status within four months, starting July 10.

The latest initiative was approved during a meeting of the Sharjah Executive Council (SEC) as part of efforts to support local establishments.

During the meeting chaired by His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Salem bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Deputy Chairman of SEC, members discussed issues related to developing government work, implementing a number of projects and issuing regulations for various sectors.

The SEC approved a Memorandum of Understanding between the Sharjah Economic Development Department and the Ministry of Industry & Advanced Technology regarding cooperation in the field of organising market surveys and verifying product conformity.

The MoU aims to ensure the safety and quality of products registered in the country’s markets, integrating federal and local efforts in monitoring and surveying markets, along with providing a central database at the state level, and enabling dealers to report any non-conforming product easily.
