RTA opens bids for electronic bike charging stations

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has opened tenders for electronic bike charging stations for the delivery industry, as the city eyes improved sustainability practices amid growth in the sector.

The CEO of the Licensing Agency at the RTA, Ahmed Mahboob, said the project aims to encourage delivery companies to adopt sustainable and environmentally-friendly means of transport.

He added the delivery sector has witnesses growth over the last few years, with the number of registered bikes reaching more than 40,000.

“The Authority affirms its commitment to providing an integrated and safe transportation system in Dubai, which supports economic development plans and contributes to achieving environmental sustainability, by encouraging the use of environmentally friendly means of transportation in various sectors, including the delivery sector, which contributes to providing an integrated transportation system in the sector safely and smoothly, and supports the economic plans in the emirate,” Mahboob said. 

The locations up for bidding include strategic delivery areas, including Barsha, Rigga, Zaabeel, Mamzar, and others.
