UAE authorities developing early warning system for major earthquakes
The National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) and the University of Sharjah are working on developing an early warning system for major earthquakes in a bid to decrease the loss of life and property.
In their first joint meeting, they discussed how this method can provide information seconds before the shockwaves reach the areas at a distance of over 100 kilometers from its centre.
The current method primarily relies on analysis and can take between 15 to 30 minutes to produce a reading.
Water security was next on the agenda and they’re looking into solutions to stop the wastage of rainwater.
The NCMS has rain enhancement airplanes, which have saved a lot of effort and money, in addition to the UAE Research Programme for Rain Enhancement Science.
