Authorities working on ways to deal with surrendered, confiscated animals

Authorities in the UAE are in the process of drafting an executive bylaw which will dictate where surrendered or confiscated wild animals will be re-located.

That’s according to local activists, who say that most creatures that are kept in captivity can’t be released into the wild because they wouldn’t be able to sustain themselves.

In January, the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment announced that owners of banned exotic and dangerous pets have six months to hand over the animals.

Dr. Elsayed Ahmed Mohamed, Regional Director for the International Fund for Animal Welfare, explains what is likely to happen to them once they’re surrendered.
